Exploring the Trails of Jacob’s Farm and Stony Hill

Join us for a trail hike of about 5 miles through the woods of Jacob’s Farm to check out parts of three Trust preserves: Red Dirt Preserve, Silver Beech Preserve, and High Point Preserve. You’ll reach an elevation of a little more than 150 feet above mean sea level and enjoy a water view through the trees! This 5-mile woodland walk will be moderately paced and will include hills. Bring tick protection, snacks and your water bottle.
$5/person suggested donation. Space is limited, reservations required. Rain cancels.

Spring Pruning Workshop

Early spring is the perfect time to get into the garden and prune certain trees and shrubs. Join us for this walk around the garden led by professional arborist Jackson Dodds and hear his tips for pruning to improve density and promote healthy plants. Pruning of white pines and ornamental evergreens, hydrangea and fruiting plants will be covered. Bring your questions!

Getting Your Organic Vegetable Garden Started

Now is the perfect time to begin your vegetable garden. This workshop, led by Renato Stafford of Homegrown Organic Food, will cover everything from creating compost, selecting, and starting seeds, transplanting seedlings, and garden layout, to harvesting and using vegetables in the kitchen. You will plant some seeds to take home and get your garden started for the season!

Resilient Long Island Symposium

Peconic Land Trust is proud to co-sponsor this 3-day conference where you can learn from scientists how to create, manage, and support resilient ecological communities. The symposium features an evening poster session and networking event at the Scully Estate in Islip, a day of presentations at Hofstra University, and concludes with workshops at the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brentwood. Topics include native plants, invasive species management strategies, land restoration, and more. The symposium is hosted by the LI Invasive Species Management Area (LIISMA) and LI Native Plant Initiative (LINPI).
