Clayton Stephenson

Clayton Stephenson

Visiting Scholar
Brooklyn, New York

American pianist Clayton Stephenson’s love for music is immediately apparent in his joyous charisma onstage, expressive power, and natural ease at the instrument. Hailed for “extraordinary narrative and poetic gifts” (Gramophone), he is committed to making an impact on the world through his music-making.

The New York City native credits the support of community programs with providing him musical inspiration and resources along the way. As he describes it, the “3rd Street Music School jump-started my music education; the Young People’s Choir taught me phrasing and voicing; the Juilliard Outreach Music Advancement Program introduced me to formal and rigorous piano training, which enabled me to get into Juilliard Pre-College; and the Morningside Music Bridge validated my talent and elevated my self-confidence.” In addition to being the first Black finalist at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022, he was named 2022 Gilmore Young Artist and 2024 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient.

Jacob Nydegger

Jacob Nydegger

San Antonio, Texas

If you stream music on Spotify, you may already be familiar with Jacob Nydegger’s playing: His debut album was included in a Spotify Picks Classical playlist back in 2018! In addition to performing at major venues across Europe and the U.S., Jacob is studying at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden — and he’s planning a new album focused on the music of Dutch composer Leo Samama.

Min Joo Yi

Min Joo Yi

Bellevue, Washington

Min Joo Yi is a perfect example of a renaissance woman: In addition to her musical studies at the Peabody Conservatory and Princeton University, she’s also received a bachelor’s degree in ecology and evolutionary biology! A recipient of the 2022 Sarah Stuhlman Zierler Prize and the Caswell and Constance Caplan Peabody Career Development Grant, Min Joo also enjoys drawing, Tetris, and learning to play the organ and harpsichord.
