Sag Harbor Cinema’s “Projections” Series

Continues with South Fork Bakery

Sunday, October 20th at 3:30pm at Sag Harbor Cinema

Free Program Includes Short Film Screening and Moderated Panel Discussion

————————————

Sag Harbor Cinema continues its “Projections” series on Sunday, October 20, from 3:30pm-4:30pm, with South Fork Bakery. This event is free to the public and will feature a panel discussion entitled “Educate, Employ, Empower, and Beyond: Meaningful Employment and Opportunities for Adults with Disabilities.” The panel discussion will be anchored in the work of South Fork Bakery and supported by East End organizations that align with its mission. There will also be a presentation of local filmmaker Sam Hamilton’s most recent Sag Harbor Story about South Fork Bakery.

Featured speakers will include Kristin Burke, Program Director at South Fork Bakery; Scott Beinecke, Assistant Baker at South Fork Bakery; Carol Beinecke, South Fork Bakery supporter, long-time disability advocate, and mother to Scott; Eric Hegi, Technical Director at East End Special Players; and Simja Bezalel, M.A., Self-Direction Manager, Brokerage Support, and Housing Navigator at East End Disability Associates. Robby Stein, Sag Harbor Cinema Advisory Board Member and South Fork Bakery Board Chairman, will moderate the discussion and the Q&A that follows.

Sag Harbor Cinema founded the “Projections” series in 2021 with the goal to amplify the work and the mission of other East End non-profit organizations by providing a space to have conversations and to build audiences using the Cinema’s facility, network, and digital presence.

This edition of “Projections” is kindly sponsored by artist and educator, Lucy de Kooning-Villeneuve.

“Our goal at the South Fork Bakery goes beyond employing, educating and empowering individuals with disabilities on the East End,” says Steve Hamilton, South Fork Bakery’s Executive Director. “Our commitment extends to addressing the housing, transportation, social, and emotional needs of our employees. The systems that affect those aspects of our daily lives are especially daunting to navigate for adults with varied needs and abilities. And on the East End, with its additional complications of geographical location and lack of accessible solutions, it is particularly challenging.”

“The work that South Fork Bakery provides our community is important and inspiring, and we could not be more pleased to partner with them for our fall ‘Projections’ edition,” says Genevieve Villaflor, Executive Director at Sag Harbor Cinema. “While South Fork Bakery’s baked goods are a staple and crowd pleaser for the Cinema’s audiences, it will be an honor to shine a light on the Bakery’s overall mission.”

The “Projections” series was created by Bill Collage, SHC Education Committee Chair, and SHC ED Villaflor. It is organized by Meghan McGinley, SHC Director of Education.

This event is free to the public, but space is limited. Reserve a spot to attend this community program at www.sagharborcinema.org.

As a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) community-based organization, Sag Harbor Cinema (SHC) is dedicated to presenting the past, present, and future of the movies and to preserving and educating about films, filmmaking, and the film-going experience in its three state-of-the-art theaters. The Cinema engages its audiences and the community year-round through dialogue, discovery, and appreciation of the moving image—from blockbusters to student shorts and everything in between. Revitalized and reimagined through unprecedented community efforts to rebuild the iconic Main Street structure after a fire nearly destroyed it in 2016, SHC continues a long historic tradition of entertainment in the heart of Sag Harbor Village.
