September – a month with an “r” in it – has arrived…and along with the cooler, crisper days, so has Oscar the Oyster! If you haven’t booked your spot at our “Oysters ‘R’ Here!” event on Saturday, September 28, make sure to do it now. Meet, greet and take a photo with the actual Oscar the Oyster as you enjoy all-you-can-eat local oysters, beer, wine, soft drinks and charcuterie.

Plus, there will be live music, amazing silent auction and raffle items, along with a special souvenir glass. (Oscar, by the way, is the mascot of the original 1950’s Shelter Island Oyster Factory, and a symbol of some of the best oysters grown on the East End of Long Island!)
The event runs from 4 to 7pm, under a tent on the SIHS lawn, 16 South Ferry Road in Shelter Island. Purchase your tickets at the History Center during our opening hours, at the Havens Farmers’ Market on Saturdays or online anytime at:

Speaking of the Farmers’ Market, our season continues after Labor Day. We are here every Saturday til October 12, when the market closes with our gala Harvest Festival. We’ll have extended hours that day, from 9am to 1:30pm, so you have extra time to browse our vendors, enjoy live music, hot cider, seasonal treats (think pumpkin spice coffee and cider donuts) and check out the savory eats at the Stars Cafe food truck.
You’ll also get to bottle your own honey, courtesy of Promiseland Apiary. The Shelter Island Library will hold a Storytime from 10am to Noon, and budding artists can participate in Art with Jude, hosted by Jude Amsel. There’s much more to come, so watch this space for further info!
