Important Community Information Sessions & Upcoming Vote

————————————

Join us for a Dessert & Discussion on Thursday, April 23 at 6:30 PM at the Ann Currie-Bell House, Maple Lane Campus (55200 Main Rd., Southold) to learn about an exciting Community Funding Initiative.

This proposal, part of Southold Union Free School District budget vote, would provide annual support for Southold Historical Museum’s historic preservation, educational programs, and the care of its nineteen historic buildings and extensive archives for just $35 per household per year (less than $3 per month).

As a way of saying thank you, each household in the district will also be offered a complimentary Annual Household Membership, which includes free access, discounts, and invitations to special Museum events throughout the year.

Ask questions, share your thoughts, and be part of the conversation. A second session will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 7:00 PM at Southold Junior/Senior High School (Library/Media Center, 420 Oaklawn Ave).

Please plan to attend one of these sessions and kindly vote “Yes” on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 3:00 PM–9:00 PM at Southold Junior/Senior High School Gymnasium, 420 Oaklawn Ave.

Your vote matters.

Upcoming Lecture: Women Who Kept the Lights, 1776–2023

————————————————

Please join us on Thursday, April 16 at 1:00 PM at Southold Historical Museum’s Maple Lane Campus (55200 Main Road, Southold) for a special illustrated presentation via live Zoom with Sally Snowman—the last official lighthouse keeper in the United States—and Jeremy D’Entremont, historian for the U.S. Lighthouse Society.

This engaging program highlights women lighthouse keepers of the northeastern United States, beginning with Hannah Thomas of Plymouth, Massachusetts, the first female keeper on the continent. The presentation will also feature Kate Walker of Robbins Reef in New York Harbor, Kate Moore of Fayerweather Island in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Ida Lewis of Lime Rock in Newport, Rhode Island.

Sally Snowman will reflect on her 20 years as keeper of Boston Light, America’s oldest light station, and her retirement, which marked the end of more than three centuries of federally appointed lighthouse keepers.
