This timeless quote by Helen Keller, who spent time in Southold herself, can be applied to so many things. We ask you to consider how it might be relevant to you regarding Southold Historical Museum.
SHM’s service to the community of Southold and Peconic for sixty-three years goes hand and hand with the backing of the very same community. The staff, volunteers, and members of the Museum cannot manage the work alone. It is only with your financial support that we are able to achieve our goal to promote interest in and education about Southold’s history.
We hope you have heard about and/or attended some of the meaningful programs and events that have taken place in the past year. Our education initiatives serve all ages, from small children to retirees. Families embrace programs like the Reenactment, Candlelight Tour, and our Winterfest participation, as well as the Step Back in History Week. Additionally, adults participate in our Lecture Series (both winter and summer), museums tours, and fairs.
Southold Historical Museum has continued to expand our web-presence with new videos and expanded social media. Whether you live near or far, we hope we have reached you!
As a private non-profit organization, we are not supported by municipal taxes but instead through the generosity of thoughtful people like you. With 17 buildings and 3 museum locations to maintain, there is a significant need for financial support, but we are fortunate to have such meaningful history to preserve.
We appreciate all who have donated in 2023. However, our appeal is ongoing.
