Concert pianist Rupert Egerton-Smith takes to The Church’s vaunted corridors to perform a program that includes Chopin, Gershwin, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, and Scarlatti, as well as an improvisational piece inspired by The Church. Described as “particularly impressive” and noted for his superb musicality, Rupert gifts us with a performance of the highest caliber of solo instrumental, classical artistry that has garnered him praise from around the world.
After finishing a successful tour of the Middle East which became the subject of a documentary entitled Evolve by award-winning filmmaker Tony El Khoury, Rupert went on to tour extensively throughout the United Kingdom playing at prestigious venues and receiving exaltations from audiences and critics alike. He comes to us after recently performing at Wiltshire’s Salisbury Cathedral, and an all-Gershwin program presented as part of his only New York City performance honoring the composer for The Lambs Foundation.

RUPERT EGERTON-SMITH
Rupert Egerton-Smith continues to distinguish himself as an artist of both rare technique and superb musicality. Described as “particularly impressive” by International Piano Magazine, the UK Daily Telegraph labels him a pianist of “stunning and real strength.”
Upcoming appearances include orchestral performances with the Bristol Classical Players, the Southbank Sinfonia, and an appearance as Special Guest Artist with The Band of The Grenadier Guards and The Band and Bugles of The Rifles at Salisbury Cathedral, where he will perform George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” in its original version as part of 100th anniversary celebration of the work before Her Majesty Queen Camilla.

The Alexander & Buono Foundation (ABF) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation established in 2008 with a mission is to identify the world’s most promising classical musicians and help them launch and sustain careers, while developing new audiences who understand, value, and appreciate classical music.

Among the foundation’s divisions are an Academy offering a Pre-College curriculum for students as young as four years, and a College Preparatory curriculum with training that has led to the acceptance of students from around the world into more than two dozen American colleges and universities, including all of the Ivy League institutions. ABF is also a Strategic Partner with the Music Teachers National Association and offers national and international teaching certification in Western classical Piano, Music History, Technique, and Pedagogy with a faculty composed of Steinway Artists, a Dean and Professor of Music Emeritus, as well as Juilliard, Princeton, and Yale graduates.

Since its inception ABF has helped to launch and sustain the careers of more than five hundred winners of The Alexander & Buono Competitions for Piano, Voice, Strings, and Flute, offering them a performance debut at Carnegie Hall as a First Prize, along with scholarships and study grants.

The focus of ABF is to treat the arts as one would any other business, while teaching artists how to assess, market, and develop their skills to create greater visibility and awareness of their work. ABF also guides students in the process of interfacing with companies, organizations, institutions, and potential audiences through publicity campaigns and effective use of media. Individual counseling, business seminars, and career guidance initiatives round out efforts to make sure that ABF is, in every way possible, helping not only to ensure a strong future for classical music, but also for those who will help define it.

(View the events calendar here) The Church was established in 2019 by artists Eric Fischl and April Gornik. Housed in a deconsecrated 19th-century church, its doors were opened in April 2021. Our mission is to foster creativity and to honor the living history of Sag Harbor as a maker village. The East End represents an exceptional artistic legacy, spanning the practices of Indigenous art of several centuries ago, Abstract Expressionists of the mid 20th Century, and the many celebrated writers, makers, musicians, and visual artists of the recent past and current moment. Core programming includes visual art exhibitions, concerts and events, educational programming, workshops, lectures, and an artist’s residency.
