On November 7, the East Hampton Historical Society was thrilled to celebrate the groundbreaking for its new Collections Storage Center, which will serve as the repository for our community’s material culture.
In 1980, the director of the Historical Society’s Board of Trustees urged the construction of a centralized fully climate-controlled storage center and now, over 40 years later, the Historical Society is finally building the home that our collection deserves.
The Historical Society is especially grateful to Senator Tony Palumbo and Assemblyman Fred Theile for attending the groundbreaking and presenting brief remarks. Thanks to their help, the Historical Society was able to secure a $442,000 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. The project has also been championed by the Historical Society’s Board of Trustees, including Hollis Forbes, Capital Campaign Chair, Frank Newbold, Chair of the Collections Committee, Ray Harden of BK Builder and Bruce Siska, who both sit on the Buildings & Grounds Committee, Board President Debbie Druker and immediate past president, Hilary Osborn Malecki.
While funding for the construction of our new Collections Storage Center, we still need to outfit it with state-of-the-art compact mobile storage equipment so we’ll have room to grow our collections in the future.
