Weather permitting, EHTPS conducts weekly Tuesday morning maintenance hikes, preparing for other hikes on our schedule and keeping as much trail as possible clear and blazed. No experience necessary, and new volunteers are always welcome. Bring a lopper, trimmer, or handsaw if available. Duration: App. 2 hours. Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 9 AM. Hither Woods Laurel Canyon Hike, Montauk (3 miles)
Start your weekend with a short but somewhat hilly loop through the leafy interior of Hither Woods. The hike will climb Laurel Canyon to the scenic viewpoint known as Panorama. We will finish the hike past Midland Junction and the Lost Boulder. Meet at roadside shoulder parking on Navy Road, ~1/2 mile west of Navy Road Railroad crossing. Note early start time. Sunday August 2, 2026, at 9 AM. Napeague Beach Ocean Hike, Amagansett (2.5 miles)
Early on a Sunday morning join us for a hike along the beautiful sandy shore of Napeague Beach. We’ll have the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the dunes of Napeague State Park on the other. Plus, there will be a special surprise at the turnaround point of the hike. Meet at the State beach access parking area, south side of Montauk Highway (Route 27), 3,800 feet east of Shipwreck Drive, Amagansett. Note early start time. Bring liquids. Duration: App. 90 minutes.

Wednesday August 5, 2026, at 10 AM. East Hampton Village North (3 miles)
Join us as we immerse ourselves in the quiet north of the highway village lanes. We’ll observe the far larger size of newer construction amidst the smaller scale homes, in a once modest, local village neighborhood. We’ll continue to Buckskill Road, just outside the village limits, passing the bucolic horse pasture, to view the remnants of- and discuss- the historic Dune Alpin Farm. Saturday August 8, 2026, at 10 AM. Napeague Bay Hike, Amagansett (3+ miles)
Join us for a tick-free beach hike on Napeague Harbor and Napeague Bay with views of Gardiner’s Island, the Walking Dunes and marshland. You’ll see the work that the East Hampton Town Aquaculture facility is doing for oysters, scallops and clams. The sand surfaces vary from firm to rocky to soft. Note that due to the tides, meet at 10 AM at the end of Napeague Harbor Road. Duration: approximately two hours. More from the “As Good as It Gets” series. Join us on a 3+ mile round trip road hike through the Eastern Plain of the village estate section. We’ll discuss the evolution of East Hampton from the farms of the early settlers to its transition into a summer colony. Explore the Egypt Lane historic district, the Village Nature Trail, and enjoy sweeping views of the Maidstone Club, Hook Pond, and the Atlantic at Egypt Beach. Duration: App. 90 minutes. Beat the summer heat with a stroll through the former Camp Hero, and along the breezy coastline just west of Montauk Point. Much of this hike will be on paved roads within what was a major American military base from 1942 to 1981, but you will enjoy it nonetheless.
