Happy Friday,
We’re so excited to welcome Brooklyn Ballet to Greenport in exactly one month for a special performance of The Nutcracker Sweet! This reimagined, 45-minute version of the holiday classic blends traditional ballet with the diverse dance styles and cultural influences of Brooklyn. We’ll have both matinee and evening performances, so you can make a day of it alongside Greenport’s holiday parade and tree lighting. And yes, tickets include sweet treats!
And… rainy weekends call for movies at the theater! We’ve got The Cat in the Hat, Wicker, You Can See Everything, and La Haine on our screens this weekend.
We’re also putting together our holiday movie lineup now, with plenty of cozy theater time in mind. Do us a favor and hit reply if there’s a holiday classic you’d love to see on the big screen!

An audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention, WICKER tells the wholly original love story of an ostracized fisherwoman (Colman) who commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker (Dinklage). When her wicker husband (Skarsgård) proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life.

Mathieu Kassovitz took the film world by storm with La haine, a gritty, unsettling, and visually explosive look at the racial and cultural volatility in modern-day France, specifically the low-income banlieue districts on Paris’s outskirts. Aimlessly passing their days in the concrete environs of their dead-end suburbia, Vinz (Vincent Cassel), Hubert (Hubert Koundé), and Saïd (Saïd Taghmaoui)—a Jew, an African, and an Arab—give human faces to France’s immigrant populations, their bristling resentment at their marginalization slowly simmering until it reaches a climactic boiling point. A work of tough beauty, La haine is a landmark of contemporary French cinema and a gripping reflection of its country’s ongoing identity crisis.
