We were gratified to see the outstanding turnout for John Holzapfel’s talk on Saturday, May 24th, “Roy Latham’s Unpublished Journals (1902-1978).”

While we sincerely regret that we had to turn away late-arrivals due to the packed house, we’re happy to provide everyone with a link to a video of John’s talk:

Note that we will be scheduling a date for John to give his talk again–in person–at the Old Point Schoolhouse. Keep your eyes open for a follow-up email containing the details.

John Holzapfel spearheaded the enormous task of organizing and transcribing the papers and journals of legendary naturalist and Orient native son Roy Latham, which were donated to OHS in 2023 by his daughter, Diana. John will be joined by Eric Lamont of the Long Island Botanical Society for a fascinating examination of the voluminous material, which is comprised of thousands of pages of Roy’s writings, including his journal, correspondence, field notes, and more.
