BRIDGEHAMPTON, NEW YORK – The Parrish Art Museum is thrilled to announce the upcoming exhibition Andrea Cote: To Belong to The World, this year’s 2024 Parrish Road Show installation. The exhibition will be open from September 14 to October 14, 2024, at Bridge Gardens in Bridgehampton, New York.

For this year’s Parrish Road Show, Andrea Cote has been invited to create a site-specific exhibition at Bridge Gardens in Bridgehampton, NY. Cote’s installation will feature cyanotype-printed fabrics, some suspended as banners from trees and others installed with bamboo structures reaching approximately fifteen feet in height. Cote’s installation will complement and highlight various features of the landscape. Cote has spent time over the past year visiting Bridge Gardens, collecting holly leaves, ferns, bamboo, and other natural materials to converge both elements of nature and the human form in celestial and cellular patterns celebrating our interconnectedness. These visits have been carefully planned to coincide with the different seasons of the year to ensure an annual view of the plant life of the garden.

The cyanotype process is recognizable by its varying shades of blue and is the early photographic process of using light exposure to capture shadow and translucency. One notable installation will include banners in the Rose Garden that track the sun’s path throughout the year, Cote represents this trajectory by producing prints on specific celestial events. Begun on the Winter Solstice and exposed on auspicious dates throughout the year, this circle will be completed onsite mid-exhibition during the Autumn Equinox.

The public is invited to rediscover Bridge Gardens through this immersive installation, which supports the local community with its multi-purpose outdoor classroom, demonstration garden, and community garden.

To highlight her commitment to the site-specificity of her new work, Cote will lead community workshops before and during the exhibition, engaging participants with both the grounds at Bridge Gardens and her unique printing practice. Cote frequently collaborates with the Museum, leading printing workshops with community groups such as Bridgehampton Child Care, Southampton High School, and New Hour’s Arts-in-Corrections program.

Artist Andrea Cote

Andrea Cote is an interdisciplinary artist working in photography, video, printmaking, and performance. Her practice encompasses studio-based work, mixed-media installations, and public projects that involve community participation. Based in Hampton Bays, she has exhibited her work at the Islip Art Museum, Delaware Art Museum, Abron’s Arts Center, The Print Center, The Moore Gallery, and Pan-American Art Projects. Her performances have been featured at The Watermill Center, The Neuberger Museum, The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, The Peekskill Project, Chashama, The Dumbo Arts Festival, and Photo Buenos Aires. She is the recipient of several grants including NYSCA Creative Individuals Grants in 2014 and 2018, two SOS grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts and a fellowship at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. The Radiance Project, supported by a residency at Southampton Arts Center, was a community-centered year-long project in 2018 for the East End of Long Island involving collective dance & printmaking with a final installation in the SAC Theater. In 2021, she presented the multidisciplinary project Social Fabric: In the Public Square, a collaboration with Ann Robideaux and Chris Jones at Guild Hall in East Hampton. She received a NYSCA Artist Support Grant with the Patchogue Arts Council for a community storytelling and printmaking project in 2023.

Now in its thirteenth year, Parrish Road Show is the Museum’s annual off-site project designed to encourage engagement and interaction between artists and the communities beyond the Museum’s walls. Each year, selected artists work with the Parrish and partner venues to create new work and provide unique opportunities for visitors to experience art in unexpected places, from public parks and highways to historical sites and community centers.
