Celebrating From 40 . . . to Forever

Thanks to you, we’re celebrating the Peconic Land Trust’s 40th anniversary this month! Your support has made it possible for us to work with landowners, communities, partner organizations, and government at all levels to conserve nearly 14,000 acres, including over 7,000 acres of farmland, miles of hiking trails, and over 6,000 acres of natural lands, watersheds, shorelines, wildlife habitats, scenic vistas, and sacred lands.

Looking forward, we will continue to engage you as our partner in a vision for a Long Island where farms, nature, and communities thrive. Enjoy this special 40th anniversary e-news as we look back at some of the many accomplishments we’ve achieved, thanks to you, and where we’re going next.

40 Conservation Achievements since 1983

Have you seen our timeline highlighting 40 conservation achievements from the past 40 years? Here’s just a sampling. You can view the full timeline on our website.
1986

Nature’s Preserve

1.1-acres next to Big Fresh Pond conserved, in large part, due to Kurt Billing. Only in his late twenties at the time, Kurt took out a personal loan to assist in the purchase of this property. He is an inspiration to other nature lovers.

1990

Quail Hill Farm

Established in Amagansett on land donated by Deborah Ann Light, the farm’s produce is available today to over 250 CSA members and local food pantries.

2008

Farms for the Future Initiative

This program ensures that farmland remains available to farmers.

2021

Sugar Loaf Summit

Working with the Shinnecock Graves Protection Warrior Society and the Town of Southampton, the Trust protected this most sacred ground. The Trust and the Society are working together on restoration and additional acquisitions in the Shinnecock Hills area.

We want to hear from YOU!

Do you have a favorite Peconic Land Trust preserve? Is there a Connections program you can’t forget? Does some aspect of our work inspire you? We’d love to hear from YOU!

To celebrate our 40th anniversary we’re looking for stories and photos that showcase what you love about the Peconic Land Trust. Fill out this form or email Julia G. King, Digital Communications Associate, to participate. The first 40 people to respond with a story and/or photo that we can use in our marketing materials will be entered to win a 40th anniversary goodie bag.

We’ll be using these stories in our marketing materials. Thanks so much for sharing!
