Conservation News:

Over 100 Acres to be Conserved in Cutchogue

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Congratulations to the Town of Southold and the owners of Mattituck Farm Holdings on the recently announced agreement where the Town will purchase the development rights on nearly 107 acres of farmland owned by Mattituck Farm. This represents one of the largest conservation projects to date under the Town’s farmland preservation program and will add significantly to the already protected stretch of farmland along Oregon Road in Cutchogue.
“It’s a significant property, actively farmed, beautiful prime soils,” said the Trust’s Melanie Cirillo, Vice President, at the Town meeting. “We’re so appreciative that the landowner was willing to negotiate and work with the town to protect this property.”
The Peconic Land Trust is proud to have assisted the landowner and the Town in this conservation endeavor.
