A Note from the Alumni Roll

Pianofest alumna Lara Downes — creator and host of NPR Music’s Amplify with Lara Downes — released This Land on Pentatone in August 2024. The album takes its title from the Woody Guthrie song and centers on the centennial of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, with a new arrangement by saxophonist and composer Edmar Colón, recorded with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra under Edwin Outwater. The program threads American folk tunes through twentieth-century works and new commissions.
