The myth of the starving artist is debunked as Joyce Raimondo presents the many ways Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, and other modern artists earned a prosperous living making art. Joyce will also present practical tips for selling and promoting art, and participants are invited to brainstorm ideas for financial prosperity in the arts.

Joyce Raimondo hosts a panel of experts to discuss methods and strategies artists can use to make a living through their work. Guests include Carol Steinberg and Renée Vara.

Carol Steinberg is an intellectual property attorney and professor at School ofVisual Arts. Carol will describe a law that protects artists’ work and proceedswhen their work is in galleries Learn why registration is important in enforcingcopyrights. She will also explain important provisions that should be includedin an artist’s contract with a gallery.

Renée Vara is a court expert and artist advocate forcreative rights with 30 years as a certified appraiseradvisor, and educator to manage collections for foundations, studios,and private collectors. Her firm provides advice and expertise to top 200collectors and artists’ studios.
