Viewings will be held on March 15 and April 5, 2025.
—————–
The genesis of this exhibition began in 1972, when a ten-year-old Haze and his younger sister sat for a portrait to have their portrait painted by de Kooning. While in the studio, de Kooning provided Haze with a set of paints and instructed him in the creation of two abstract canvases. In 2020, long since having established himself as a leading street artist and graphic designer, Haze revisited this childhood memory during his residency at the Elaine de Kooning House. The paintings he made furint this residency recall those nascent marks, repetitions of the childhood abstractions in graphic grayscale, charting the generalogy of a gesture over fifty years.
In Memory Image, he abstractions which Haze made with de Kooning are accompanied by these recent reiteratins, the portraid de Kooning painted of Haze and his sister, and a self-portrait by de Kooming. Visitors will have three public opportunities to view the installation. The exhibiton will be on view during the Member’s Jazzz Night even on Saturday, March 15 from 6 to 9 PM and during a free-to-the-public Open House on Saturday, April 5th from 11:30 to 4:30 PM. Eric Haze will deliver a special artist talk on Saturday, April 5th at 6 PM. Tickets for this artist talk are available at pkhouse.org.
