Preservation Long Island is thrilled to be the first venue in New York State to host Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition that offers a broad look at the nearly 250-year-old American experiment of a government “of, by and for the people.” The exhibition includes art and artifacts drawn from Preservation Long Island and other local collections.

Explores the poetry and public voices of two published Black poets of eighteenth-century America, Phillis Wheatley and Jupiter Hammon, highlighting their lives and work, politics, relationship to each other, and their legacies. 7 PM to 8 PM Register HEREApril 19: American Experiments Game Night

A night of games developed by the Smithsonian and offered as a companion program to the exhibition. There are no right answers, just an opportunity for lively discussion, friendly debate, and the sharing of ideas! Preservation Long Island Exhibition Gallery
Representatives from the Huntington Chapter of the League of Women Voters will be stationed in the gallery from noon to 2 pm to share resources with Voices and Votes exhibition visitors.

Preservation Long Island Exhibition Gallery
Preservation Long Island Curator, Lauren Brincat, will guide visitors through the “Voices and Votes” exhibition that explores the origins of American democracy from the revolution and suffrage to civil rights and casting ballots. 11 AM to 12:30 PM. Register HERE
