Preservation Long Island and experts from the New York State Historic Preservation Office and the Preservation League of New York State, will lead a free, day-long workshop exploring the tools, funding, and resources available to help preserve historic places across Long Island.

Workshop Presenter Biographies:

Tara Cubie is the Preservation Director of Preservation Long Island. She leads preservation initiatives across Long Island, raising awareness about historic preservation, managing preservation programs, and providing technical assistance to communities and individuals. Tara works closely with local organizations and municipalities to support preservation efforts and strengthen advocacy networks. She holds an MS in Historic Preservation and an MS in Urban Planning from Columbia University.

Molly Donahue is a Historic Site Restoration Coordinator in the Incentives & Planning Unit at the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. She reviews projects for Long Island, New York City, and Mid-Hudson regions. Molly holds an M.S. in Architectural Conservation from the University of Edinburgh.

Jeff Ivannone is a Historic Preservation Program Analyst in the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Survey and National Register representative for New York City and Long Island. He holds a PhD in American Studies from the University at Buffalo and a MA in Historic Preservation Planning and LGBT Studies from Cornell University.

Theresa Moriarty works in the Technical Services Unit of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. She has been with OPRHP since May of 2024, and reviews projects from Long Island and the North Country. Theresa holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a M.S. in Construction Management from Virginia Tech.

Janna Rudler is the Grants and Technical Services Manager at the Preservation League of New York State. Janna advises individuals, communities, non-profits and municipalities in achieving their preservation goals, offering technical support and referrals, and oversees the League’s grant programs. Janna holds a BA in Anthropology from Binghamton University and a Master of Arts in History Museum Studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program.

New York State Historic Preservation Office

New York’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) helps communities identify, evaluate, preserve, and revitalize their historic, archeological, and cultural resources. The SHPO administers programs authorized by both the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and the New York State Historic Preservation Act of 1980. These programs, including the Statewide Historic Resources Survey, the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places, the federal historic rehabilitation tax credit, the Certified Local Government program, the state historic preservation grants program, state and federal environmental review, and a wide range of technical assistance, are provided through a network of teams assigned to territories across the state.
