Dear Friends of Preservation Long Island,
As the holiday season surrounds us with warmth and joy, I wanted to take a moment to say hello and also reflect on my first week as the new Executive Director of Preservation Long Island. I’ve been busy getting to know the extremely talented staff and am thrilled about the many exciting exhibitions, projects, and programs relating to historic preservation that are currently underway.
Last week, we welcomed over 1,000 visitors to our Sherwood-Jayne House and Farm in East Setauket as part of the Three Villages Candlelight House Tour. The house, originally built around 1730 and well known for its hand-painted floral wall frescoes, was decorated and lit in holiday splendor and the tour was a perfect way to kick off the holiday season.
The exhibition Promoting Long Island: The Art of Edward Lange recently closed after four months on display in our main gallery and received very positive news coverage from many media outlets, including this article in Newsday While the exhibition is now closed, you can still buy the beautiful Edward Lange coffee table book which accompanied the exhibition – a perfect holiday gift – by clicking here. Use code “thankyou24” for 20% off—a wonderful review of the book appeared in the East Hampton Star.
I’d like to thank President Michelle Gokey and the Trustees for their enormous support and guidance over the past few weeks, as well as for the important past leadership and legacy of both Bob Mackay and Alex Wolfe.
Thank you for your warm welcome and I am excited to embark on this journey with you.
Wishing you the very best this holiday season!
Jackie Powers
Executive Director
