Please join us on Saturday 02.28 for an opening celebration of the Queens Museum’s Spring 2026 exhibition: About Us: The American Imaginary. The afternoon celebration will include exhibition walkthroughs led by the curatorial team and a reception.
About Us: The American Imaginary asks “what is American about American Art?” Over the course of eight months, three Terra Foundation Fellows catalogued, researched, and wrote about numerous photographs in the Museum’s collection and grappled with this question. The three discrete collections of images on view in the exhibition emerged from each Fellow’s lived experience, scholarly research, and collaboration. Through varied subject matter and across time, the images speak to family lore and nostalgia, contradiction, visibility, migration, fame, intimacy, conflict, and roots.
Opening Celebration Schedule
2:00 pm – 3:30 pm: Exhibition walkthrough with Christina Chan, Annette Parkins, and Carlos David Trujillo (Terra Fellows), with Lynn Maliszewski, Assistant Director of Archives and Collections
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Reception with food and drinks for purchase in the Unisphere Cafe by The August Tree

Acompáñenos el sábado 28 de febrero en la celebración inaugural de la exposición de primavera de 2026 del Queens Museum: About Us: The American Imaginary (About Us: El imaginario americano). La celebración incluirá una recepción y recorridos por la tarde , liderados por el equipo curatorial.
About Us: El imaginario americano pregunta “¿qué tiene de americano el arte americano?”. A lo largo de 8 meses, tres becades del Terra Foundation catalogaron, investigaron y escribieron sobre numerosas fotografías en la colección del museo, abarcando esta pregunta. Las tres colecciones discretas de imágenes expuestas en esta exhibición emergen de la experiencia vivida de cada becade, su investigación académica y colaboración. A través del tiempo y una variedad de temas, las imágenes hablan sobre la tradición familiar , la nostalgia, las contradicciones, la visibilidad, la migración, la fama, la intimidad, el conflicto y las raíces.
