Part of our Mission at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge is to provide unique and exciting nature programming for all ages, something we have done since the early 1960’s. In light of recent events, we have updated our most popular programs and are now able to offer them virtually utilizing Google Meet, Zoom or Facebook live.

Meet the Wildlife

Meet the Animals 

A variety of critters can be brought to your computer screen for students (of any age) to learn about, including snakes, turtles, mammals, birds of prey, and some creepy crawlies. Choose a theme for your program: Nocturnal animals, Native species, or Rainforest animals.

Reptiles 
Meet a variety of reptiles, including snakes, turtles, and tortoises! Attendees will learn all about various reptiles and their lifestyles and how you can help local species.

Birds of Prey 
This program will introduce your patrons, students or scouts to live birds of prey, as they meet our resident raptors. Attendees will learn the personal history of each native New York animal and why it lives at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, as well as the adaptations that allow these animals to be such incredible hunters.

All about Turtles
Learn all about turtles, terrapins and tortoises. Chelonian anatomy and physical adaptations will be discussed, as well as what types of native turtles can be found on Long Island. Learn how you can help native turtles in the wild. The lesson will include a power point presentation, various artifacts such as shells, eggs, posters and a variety of live turtles and tortoises that are cared for at the Refuge.

Virtual Lectures

Bats! 
This program will teach children and adults all about bats, including their anatomy and amazing physical adaptations, various lifestyles of bats from all over the world — including Long Island — and their ecological importance to the planet. The lesson will include a power point presentation, as well as various artifacts such as taxidermy bats, a bat skeleton, posters, and a bat fossil replica.

Frogs of Long Island 
Hop into a great lesson about the 9 species of native frogs that call Long Island home. Frog anatomy, amphibians, and life history will be discussed during this PowerPoint presentation. While each species is being discussed, its call will be played for students to hear. Lesson can be edited for age group.

Ruby Throated Hummingbirds
Learn all about our local hummingbird species, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, and how to attract them to your yard. A power point presentation will cover a variety of topics about this amazing feathered species. This program is geared towards adult audiences.
