Fundraising to Feed the Forks

FUN-draising Farm to Table “Taste the Forks” Dinners

  • We hosted more than 200 people over two nights in November at Noah’s and Almond, both Snail of Approval restaurants that have long designed their menus to be “slow minded”.
  • The multi-course menus were curated to include a wide variety of local, small scale farmers, fisherman, producers, cheesemakers, winemakers and more from the East End.
  • Noah’s first course, Cheese Pumpkin Bisque was made with pumpkins from his own garden using Slow Food Ark of Taste heirloom seeds.
  • Almond’s first course was Bratwurst made in their kitchen from Crescent Farm duck. Dating to 1908 it is now the only duck farm on the East End, once there were over 100. These dinners support our local farms.
  • BIG thank you to Chef Noah Schwartz and Chef Jason Weiner for the delicious, clever menus and for welcoming an enthusiastic crowd.
  • Stay tuned for more dinners and events like these in 2025!

Feed the Forks Annual Auction — Thank you Bidders & Donors

  • This year we raised almost $12,000 from our auction featuring a wide array of East End offerings for bidders. As a nonprofit organization, Slow Food East End is managed and lead entirely by volunteers. This means every dollar we raise is invested back into our community.

Flour Power Bake Program

We Celebrated 3 years of Flour Power in 2024

  • 2024 saw the Flour Power program transition from a bi-weekly bake to focused quarterly bakes, centered around the most challenging times of the year.
  • Our volunteer bakers rallied around our Thanksgiving request and delivered over 170 loaves for distribution. Exceeding expectations and bringing food to those in need around the holiday season.
  • Thank you to our village of bakers, the North Fork United Methodist Church, who safely stored the loaves until delivery day, and SFEE leaders Becky Chidester and Stacey Issacs who spearheaded the Flour Power pivot.
  • Want to get involved in 2025? Stay tuned for 2025 bake dates and in the meantime, check out our baking demo video.

FOOD & GARDEN EDUCATION PROGRAMS

SFEE Grants educated local youths and sprouted slow gardens

  • Garden and food children’s education has been a legacy mission of SFEE for many years and we have supported over 30 local schools and organizations so far.
  • In 2024, with the help of Master Farmer, Maria Plitt, we increased our reach to help support garden programs with the Food Lab at Stonybrook Southampton, the Shinnecock Nation, and the Riverhead Schools.
  • We also partnered with Amber Waves a nonprofit education farm in Amagansett. With our $10,000 grant Amber Waves welcomed 8,500 children to the farm for classes, from the Exploration Garden to Baby Social to multigenerational cooking classes. Kids learned through play, soil exploration, crafting, harvesting, planting and tasting nutrient-dense foods.

COMMUNITY NETWORKING

Public SFEE Board Meeting / Potluck Dinner & Earth Day

Bringing Community Together

  • We hosted our annual Public Board Meeting and Member Potluck at Golden Acres Farm in Jamesport this year. It was a beautiful day and we were able to all enjoy a communal meal together at long tables in the fields. A true farm to table feast.
  • Our Slow Food East End by-laws require us to host one public meeting a year, so be on the look out for our 2025 meeting and potluck!
