Bridgehampton, NY – The South Fork Natural History Museum’s Young Environmentalist Society (YES!), in partnership with the Institute for the Conservation of Tropical Environments (ICTE), invites the community to a special screening of Ivohiboro: The Lost Forest, followed by a Q&A with acclaimed primatologist and conservationist Dr. Patricia Wright.
Set atop Madagascar’s majestic Crystal Mountain at an elevation of 4,921 feet, Ivohiboro is a rare, primary tropical forest — one of the last of its kind on Earth. Untouched by time yet increasingly threatened, this mystical landscape is the subject of the newly released documentary Ivohiboro: The Lost Forest, a gripping expedition into one of the planet’s most biologically rich and unexplored ecosystems.
Led by Dr. Patricia Wright, a pioneering American scientist and professor at Stony Brook University, the 30-day expedition brought together a diverse team of young international researchers. Their journey into the heart of Ivohiboro uncovers previously unknown species, illuminates ancient biodiversity, and provides powerful insights into how we can protect our most vital and vulnerable natural habitats.
“The story of Ivohiboro, as captured through Dr. Wright’s expedition with her international team of young researchers, offers a compelling narrative of discovery and conservation. It underscores the importance of such untouched wilderness areas and the urgent need for their protection.”
— UNESCO
Dr. Wright is a MacArthur “Genius” Fellow and the first woman to receive the Indianapolis Prize for Animal Conservation. She has authored over 200 scientific publications, led the discovery of a new lemur species, and founded the Centre ValBio in Madagascar—a world-renowned research and training center. Her work has been spotlighted in the IMAX documentary Island of Lemurs: Madagascar (narrated by Morgan Freeman), and now in Ivohiboro – The Lost Forest, which premiered in France in 2024.
