Thanks to All who Attended Our

Special Lecture with Chef Tom Schaudel

———————————

Thank you to all who joined us for the final lecture in our free winter series, and a very warm and special thanks to Chef Tom Schaudel who delighted audiences with his talent and humor. Chef Schaudel discussed “Keeping It Rooted on Long Island”, sharing his expertise in utilizing fresh, local ingredients to craft amazing culinary creations.

In addition to hearing stories from Chef Schaudel’s extensive history in the restaurant industry (lots of laughs), he treated attendees to a delicious taste of gnocchi with a veal sausage sauce. It was truly an enjoyable event!

We hope to have a video of the event on YouTube shortly.

Wide Awake Club Banner

———————————

This banner in our collection belonged to the Wide Awake Club, a paramilitary organization founded in the 1850s who supported the Union cause and Abraham Lincon’s 1860 presidential run.

The Southold Wide Awakes were known to march through the streets at night, bearing torches and carrying banners in support of their ideals. This banner is unique in that it was modified later to include patches reading “Union Forever” and “Welcome Home” as soldiers returned to the North Fork after the Confederate surrender.
