Cinderblocks. Silkscreens. Sculpture. …Soup?
————
These are just a few of the elements that made up FEAR EATS THE SOUL (an installation by rirkrit tiravanija), on view at Glenstone from September 2019 through March 2020. Cut short by the outbreak of COVID-19, the exhibition contained a t-shirt factory, cinderblock barriers, a working soup kitchen, graffiti by local artists…and undisclosed secrets revealed for the first time in this book.
The catalogue includes several essays on Rirkrit Tiravanija’s practice, which is equal parts social experience, institutional and political critique, and lighthearted troublemaking. The book features reflections from almost a dozen Glenstone guides who, for a time, silkscreened and sold shirts, served soup, and interpreted the ever-changing space of FEAR EATS THE SOUL. Readers will also find a compendium of twelve soup recipes concocted by the artist and our café team that were served to visitors for free over the course of the show.
The catalogue is available for purchase at our bookstore and will be available online in early 2024.
