Dear Friends,
Spring has arrived at Hallockville! As you can see, our daffodils have blossomed in their full glory.
Did you know that because daffodils are one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, they are viewed as representations of new beginnings?
What better time to introduce myself as the new executive director!
It is certainly an exciting time to be here at Hallockville. As you may have heard, we received a $500,000 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts for the adaptive reuse of the Naugles Barn. We have applied for a matching grant so fingers crossed.
The renovation will not only mean there will be accessible bathrooms in the Barn, but, with an HVAC system in place, we will be able to offer events and programs all year round. Having a community space like this will be a game changer for Hallockville.
To augment our grant funds for the Barn’s adaptive reuse project, we are excited to host our first Barn-Raising Supper on August 22. We hope you will join us for a delicious array of hyper-local bounty where we will honor former Board President Alfonso Martinez-Fonts for his outstanding leadership and preservation of the museum farm. (See the Save the Date below.) Tickets are $195 for members and $225 for non-members (will include a one-year individual membership) and can be purchased by clicking the button below.
If you’d like to sponsor the event, please email me at execdirector@hallockville.org for more information.
Also new this year are two board members: Adam Matros, Branch Manager VP from M & T Bank, and Kevin Nohejl, science teacher from Shoreham-Wading River High School. Welcome aboard!
Assistant Director Connie Klos has been busy behind the scenes preparing for a very busy Hallockville calendar in 2024. This spring alone we have classes, walking tours, beekeeping programs, a Volunteer Orientation Day, the ever-popular Fleece & Fiber Festival and much more. And don’t forget to sign up your children/grandchildren for our one-of-a-kind summer camps.
Thank you for your support of Hallockville! I look forward to seeing you at one, some or all of our offerings.
Best,
Heather
P.S. If you are looking for some lovely and unique items for your home, check out Miss Ella’s Shop in the Hudson House, which is now open. We have your spring decor and treats covered with table runners, “zero-calorie” Easter eggs, jam and honey and other goodies.
