We continue to be proud and heartened by the many ways our Montauk community is pulling together to support and help each other. REMEMBERING PETER BEARD
The Montauk community is saddened by the loss of one of our own; the world renowned photographer, artist and conservationist Peter Beard. At the Playhouse Foundation, we remember with gratitude his early support of our mission and the “Beard’s Bash” parties he hosted for our benefit—designing the invitations and contributing his artwork to our fundraising auctions. He will be greatly missed here in our hamlet and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Click here to watch Peter Beard: A Wild Life, a short film directed and produced by Derek Peck for NOWNESS.

HONORING EARTH DAY
Although CCOM’s annual Great Montauk Cleanup was postponed this year, many people throughout Montauk honored Earth Day by cleaning our roads and beaches on their own and with their families—including the Playhouse Foundation’s Chair, Chip Duryea. Here’s Chip with the debris he picked up during his Earth Day hike from the lighthouse to the western overlook. Thank you Chip—and all of those who answered the call to help keep Montauk beautiful!

ACTS OF KINDNESS
MONTAUKERS LENDING A HAND | In recent years, Montauk’s Maureen Rutkowski (background) has travelled the country with the nonprofit Team Rubicon, a national crisis response organization. She’s been sticking closer to home these days, but has kept busy helping to plan coronavirus response operations in NY and the northeast. Last week, alongside her daughter Alexandra and Montauk friend Joy Hear (foreground), Maureen volunteered at an Island Harvest warehouse, packing food kits to be distributed to families all over Long Island.
FOR THE MONTAUK FOOD PANTRY | The Surf Lodge has created a fundraiser for the benefit of the Montauk Food Pantry. They’re selling their signature $100 hoodies and $25 beanies and donating 100% of the proceeds to the pantry to support their vital work. To learn more, email them at: events@thesurflodge.com. The Montauk Food Pantry’s next drive-through distribution date is Tuesday, April 28. For more information, visit: montaukfoodpantry.org
