Dear Friends of Robert Wilson,
earlier this month, Bob started a journey into the universe of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. His new production PESSOA—Since I’ve Been Me received its world première at the Teatro della Pergola, and has been described as “a masterpiece to see and see again” (Il Piccolo). It will be performed again this November at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, and next March at the São Luiz Teatro Municipal in Lisbon. Many more appearances to follow soon in Luxembourg, Trento, Trieste and other locations, and we will publish them on our production page.

PESSOA AND WRESTLERS: ART IN FLORENCE AND VENICE
Inspired by his eponymous theater creation, Bob’s “Pessoa” drawings are on view, as is his seminal “Father’s Chair,” at Tinaia Al Bosco, a unique contemporary art space near Florence. Viewings are by appointment only. Please contact Felipe Moura (+39 331 734 1574, info@latinaia-albosco.com) to arrange your visit until June 15.
Meanwhile in Venice, Bob’s newest glass creation can be viewed at Fondazione Berengo, an exhibition space on the “glass island” of Murano. No less theatrical, and created in collaboration with the glass masters of Berengo Studio, these pairs of “Wrestlers” seem to be suspended in a “sublime moment between extreme tension and calm” (Françoise Guichon). The exhibition will be up until until November 24.

LEIPZIG: A MAGICAL WONDERLAND
The sequel of the exhibition A Chair and You just opened at the Grassi Museum for Applied Arts in Leipzig, Germany. First unveiled at the new Mudac in Lausanne in 2022, this exhibition presents the late Thierry Barbier-Mueller’s chair collection with Bob’s immersive scenography. Visitors can view the chairs as if they were protagonists of a performing arts show in which the history of art and design from the 1960s to the present day is told. The press has celebrated the exhibition as “one of [the Grassi’s] most impressive exhibitions ever” (MDR News), a “magical wonderland” and “alternate magical world” (Leipziger Volkszeitung). You can visit the show in Leipzig until October 6.

STAR AND STONE: ROUEN’S CATHEDRAL OF LIGHT AND SOUND
The cathedral in the French city of Rouen is mainly known for impressionist painter Claude Monet’s series of thirty-three paintings depicting views and details of Notre-Dame. Also, every year, it becomes the canvas for the “Cathédrale de lumière,” a light and sound spectacle for the 2024 edition of which the City of Rouen and the Normandie Impressioniste Festival have commissioned Bob. His new installation entitled STAR and STONE: a kind of love … some say will première on May 24, and be shown throughout the summer until September 28.
