While you are at home, learn about the history of the Havens family and house!
The Havens DIMONscape is a permanent exhibit at The Shelter Island History Center. It is a multilayered digital piece of artwork created by Roz Dimon that depicts the history of the Havens house and family. By scanning a QR code with an IPhone or the provided IPads, the viewer has access to audio and over one thousand layers of historic images that represent 300 years’ worth of Havens’ history.
Roz Dimon has been an innovator in the fine art world of New York City for more than thirty years. She studied in Italy while at The Lamar Dodd School of Art [University of Georgia, Athens, GA], and moved to New York in the early 80s to begin working and training in digital media. Dimon was invited to teach some of the earliest pioneering courses in digital art as a Visiting Professor at Pratt Manhattan and Associate Professor of Computer Art at Marymount Manhattan College in New York. Her artwork has been exhibited in major venues of new media art and written about in publications such as Leonardo, Forbes Magazine, and the MIT Press, among others. Dimon has lectured at SIGGRAPH NYC for the critically-acclaimed “Media Shock” conference and presented at the International Symposium on 9/11 and 3/11 for Waseda University in Tokyo. One of her other DIMONscapes, PALE MALE, is in the permanent collection of the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
