Collections Corner: Oracle of Fortune Game

————————

People have been searching for answers about their fortunes and destinies for centuries.

Recently added to our collection is this fascinating deck of cards, still in its original box. The Oracle of Fortune, dating to circa 1851, was a game that promised to guide players toward wealth and success. The deck may have originally been paired with a book offering “mystical methods and planetary alignments” to help readers discover their fortune and destiny.

A glimpse into the ways people once looked to the stars—and the cards—for answers.
