Join us, Saturday at 4pm, as we welcome Richard Kurin, Smithsonian Distinguished Scholar and Ambassador-at-Large, to the theater for a Presentation and Conversation about his new book History by a Hair: Thomas Jefferson, Sally Hemings and Solving a 200-Year-Old Mystery. What makes tomorrow especially meaningful is the conversation we’ll have here in Greenport: two descendants featured in the book—one of whom lives in Greenport—will join Kurin on stage, in conversation with book collaborator and Coming to the Table North Fork co-founder Liz Welch.
Kurin’s new book follows an extraordinary 15-year scientific investigation sparked by a strand of hair found in Thomas Jefferson’s Bible—and the effort to use modern genomics to answer a 200-year-old question about Jefferson, Sally Hemings and their descendants. The research has drawn national attention from The New York Times, The Atlantic, NPR, the Today Showand Smithsonian Magazine.
Burton’s Bookswill have copies available with a signing following the event. Tickets are $20, and admission is free for ages 25 and under. We hope you’ll join us for this very special afternoon.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
