Sylvester Sunday & More

Please join the Sylvester Manor community at a service dedicated to Sylvester Manor to be held outdoors at Union Chapel in the Grove. Sylvester Manor Board Trustee Galen Guenguerich, PhD, former Senior Minister of All Souls Unitarian Church in New York City and noted author and columnist, will give a sermon and Manor musicians of many ages will participate in the service.

Sylvester Manor Sunday is part of a series at Union Chapel where different community organizations are invited to the chapel. The services are ecumenical and all denominations are welcome.

You are also invited to join Galen for “This Amazing World: Nature in Verse and Song”, an hour of poetry and music celebrating the beauty, wonder, and complexity of the natural world. Drawing on the work of William Wordsworth, Mary Oliver, Wendell Berry, Joy Harjo, and others, Galen will read poems that explore our relationship with the earth, its delights, and its demands. The readings will be interwoven with music by The Westerlies, the acclaimed brass quartet in residence with Shelter Island Friends of Music, creating a resonant conversation between word and song.

Bring the kids, pick up snacks at the Farmstand, and settle in to enjoy the late afternoon light at the Farm with mellow melodies drifting through the air. It’s the perfect way to kick off your weekend.
