Planned Gift from PK House Director Emeritus Helen Harrison and Artist Roy Nicholson to Strengthen the Arts on the East End

For 34 years, Helen A. Harrison served as Eugene V. and Clare E. Thaw Director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, where she established the reputation of the site as an international destination for art appreciators and researchers alike. Harrison and her husband, renowned artist Roy Nicholson, will now further strengthen the East End arts community through a planned estate gift worth an estimated $5 million and an additional $2 million endowed fund to support the arts on the East End of Long Island.

“Helen Harrison and Roy Nicholson have contributed so richly to the fabric of the East End, and we are deeply grateful for their generosity,” said Stony Brook University President Andrea Goldsmith. “As artists who have shaped this community in profound ways, their gift will ensure that the arts will continue to transform our students and our entire region. It preserves an extraordinary legacy while opening new doors for creativity and learning for generations to come.”

Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous is set to open at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on October 4, 2026.

Joe Zucker: 1000 Brushstrokes

Joe Zucker (1941 – 2024) is one of the most innovative, and idiosyncratic, figures in contemporary American art. His Brushstrokes, industrial mops soaked in myriad colors of Benjamin Moore house paint, encapsulate his interests in material, process, and how paintings are made.

House Guest: Susan Vecsey at the Pollock-Krasner House

September 17 – October 31, 2026

Susan Vecsey (b. 1971) draws from the traditions of Color Field and landscape painting to create abstractions from perception. Living and working in East Hampton, NY, Vecsey continues a tradition of abstraction informed by nature that is this region’s legacy.
