Preservation L.I: Virtual Authors Talk, ‘Wood and Water….’, Thursday, Aug 6th @ 6 PM
Photos from the opening night party earlier this month for our newest exhibition, Wood and Water: Furniture on Long Island, 1660–1860.
Dear Friends of Preservation Long Island,
I hope you are enjoying the summer season. Our summer of 2026 began with our June Country House Benefit Party at the spectacular Hayields House. I am delighted to share the feature below that appeared in David Patrick Columbia’s New York Social Diary column in the Summer Issue of Quest Magazine.
Our summer season continues in August with two special programs connected to the exhibition. In addition, all three of our historic houses are open on weekends this season, with guided tours by our house educators scheduled throughout the day. Admission to our house museums is always free for Preservation Long Island members. Click the membership button below to join, renew, or upgrade your membership.

Wood and Water Exhibition Special Programs

Exhibition curators and catalog authors Lauren Brincat and Steven Baltsas, alongside contributing authors Laini Farrare, Peter Fedoryk, and Dr. Katherine C. Hughes, will present new research exploring how Long Islanders used furniture to engage with their communities and the broader Atlantic world.
Traditional woodworker Rick Liegl will lead a live woodworking demonstration. Learn about methods practiced by Long Island craftspeople in the 17th and 18th centuries. You will also have the opportunity to try out traditional tools and techniques.
